Lucid Knives based in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, features the work of bladesmith Travis McLean. Travis began making knives for his own use during his kitchen career. He acquired the skills and equipment to work with high end blade material, and he continues to hone his craft.
Another heavy duty workhorse style gyuto from Travis, this time in Wolfram Special. A relatively newly released British steel developed to rival the top performing modern cutlery steels. Clad in soft stainless for ease of maintenance and a nice contrasting look, especially as the core develops a patina. A weighty gyuto with a very nice spinal taper, convex ground bevels and a thin edge. Although the spine is thick, the grind of the bevels is fairly acute and without a noticeable ridge, giving it a cutting feel that is closer to a full convex blade rather than one with a sharp shinogi. A medium grit finish of Numata fingerstones gives it a pleasant tint as well as sublty highlighting some of the migration particles and activity in the cladding. The steel has top class sharpness and toughness while also being easy to re-hone.
