Motokyuuichi knives are hand forged by 4th and 5th generation blacksmiths of the Maeda family. The original Kyuuichi family were well renowned swordsmiths during the Edo period, but their lineage gradually disappeared from the sword making craft. In 1895 Motokyuuichi was taken over by swordsmith Shoujirou Maeda who founded the current workshop and applied his skill set to focus on forging harvesting tools, kitchen, hunting and craft knives. There is a slight belly to most of their kitchen blades, with good stiffness while being thin behind the edge. Motokyuuichi's Blue 2 knives are water quenched for great sharpness and durability. Incredible steel quality at a very affordable price point.
