Under his own label "the nine", Melbourne based bladesmith Robert Trimarchi creates knives and other kitchen tools out of his humble workshop. Over the years, his knives have gained a reputation for excellent performance, a unique aesthetic, and a great degree of practicality and longevity.

Each one of Robert's knives are made by himself from start to finish - from forging, heat treating, grinding, sharpening and crafting the fittings. For this particular blade, the polish and final sharpening was done by us.

This sujihiki features a thin grind with a gentle convex and a kiritsuke style tip that is chamfered at the spine on both sides. The blade has been polished with a progression of different finger stones to a semi specular finish with a bright hamon and abundant steel activity revealed. The fittings are made with Robert's materials of choice - bog oak handle and a magnolia sheath.

The geometry of the blade's surface is very even, and can easily be re-polished. The handle is sealed with beeswax which can be warmed and removed to make refinishing easier. Although the sheath fits well on it's own, it can be further secured with either the included pin or cord.

We were lucky to acquire this beautiful piece from Robert, and we hope to be able to present more of his work to you.
